cabanotel is deeply rooted in respect for nature and history.

Located in the magnificent Ferpècle valley, the idea was to transform this little gem of a hotel while preserving the soul and unique character of the building dating back to 1876. The transformation project is based on a respectful, sustainable and ecological approach.

Each stage of the renovation was designed to maintain the building's historic integrity while providing modern comforts. The aim was to ensure that the spirit of the place remained intact, honoring its past while infusing it with contemporary, environmentally-friendly practices and technologies.

The sustainable approach is reflected in the use of local, renewable materials and the integration of clean energies - solar, wood and photovoltaic - to ensure responsible management of natural resources. By preserving the original structure and implementing innovative solutions to limit the ecological footprint, cabanotel embodies a perfect harmony between past and future.

In this way, cabanotel is not just a place to stay, but a genuine invitation to enjoy an experience in symbiosis with nature and history, in a setting where sustainability and respect for heritage are at the heart of every choice.

the completion of restructuring work...

The cabanotel transformation project is characterized by a short circuit, emphasizing the use of local, sustainable materials. The entire load-bearing and secondary structure is made from fir from the Valais or other regions of Switzerland, guaranteeing deep roots in local tradition while supporting a circular economy.

Particular attention was paid to the deconstruction of existing materials. The 170-year-old larch elements were carefully dismantled and stored, allowing them to be reused in the new construction. This precious wood has found a second life in various elements of cabanotel, preserving its history and value while reducing the environmental impact of the project.

Staircases, circulation walls and all bedroom floors were entirely rebuilt with wood from the original building, giving each space a unique and authentic character. In addition, the interior panelling was sawn from Evolène fir, air-dried for 9 weeks before being installed in the wooded rooms. This process guarantees not only the durability of the materials, but also a warm, natural ambience in the interior spaces.

Every detail of the building has been designed to respect the environment while enhancing the region's natural and architectural heritage.

the use of natural resources...

The cabanotel embodies a model of sustainability thanks to a short and responsible circuit in the use of natural resources. The entire building runs on 100% renewable energy, and every aspect of its operation is designed to reduce environmental impact while guaranteeing comfort and efficiency.

Use of local wood

The heating and hot water systems are powered by renewable energy sources: local fir and larch wood is used as fuel, guaranteeing a low carbon footprint while making the most of local forest resources. This wood is also used for cooking, adding an authentic touch while respecting the environment.

The building's thermal envelope is carefully designed to ensure optimum insulation while limiting energy consumption. This approach makes the most of the renewable natural resources available on site.

Heating and hot water are provided by a hydraulic stove coupled with solar thermal panels. This integrated system maximizes the use of solar energy to meet daily heating and hot water needs, minimizing energy impact.

At the same time, electricity is generated on site thanks to an 80 m² photovoltaic solar panel installation, guaranteeing the building's energy autonomy. This local production of electricity reduces external energy requirements and contributes to the site's energy efficiency.

In this global approach, every natural resource is used optimally, ensuring sustainable and ecological management. This eco-construction model, both environmentally friendly and energy self-sufficient, is an invitation to rethink our relationship with natural resources and their responsible management.

The use of water...

The cabanotel project also implements a short circuit for water use, aiming to minimize environmental impact while guaranteeing optimum comfort for its occupants.

The drinking water supply comes directly from a natural source, pure, crystal-clear water gushing from the bowels of the earth. This approach ensures not only water quality, but also sustainable management of water resources, giving priority to local, natural systems.

For wastewater treatment, a natural phyto-infiltration system has been implemented. This innovative, environmentally-friendly system treats water contaminated by human activity, using earthworms, plants and micro-organisms to filter and purify the water. Once treated, the water is returned to nature, directly on site, thus closing the water cycle in an environmentally-friendly way.

What's more, each room is equipped with a dry toilet, a device that separates faeces from urine. This system reduces water consumption and recycles organic waste, contributing to sustainable resource management while respecting the environment.

This comprehensive approach to water management makes the cabaotel an innovative, environmentally-friendly facility that is fully integrated into its natural surroundings.
